Living and studying in Rome has given me a privileged vantage point into both the international character of the Society of Jesus and the deep catholicity, the universality, of the Church. Within my own community, I have shared life with Jesuits from every continent, each bringing their own history, theological intuitions, and pastoral practices. This experience has stretched my heart and broadened my mind. At the same time, being in Rome allows me to experience the universal Church not as a distant institution but as a living, breathing communion of cultures and voices.

حتّى هذه اللحظة، لا أعلم ما هو عنوان خبرتي الشخصيّة… ربّما الأنسب في بدايتها كانت ” دعوة الربّ بين رماد الحرب ونور الكلمة”، واليوم وأنا في سنتي الأولى لدراسة اللاهوت، أضع عنوانًا جديدًا، عنوانًا فكريًّا ” البحث عن الله “، أبحث عنه في كلّ مقال وكتاب ومحاضرة.

في الأول من شهر نسيان ولمدة ثلاثة أيام أقيمت الندوة الثالثة ضمن برنامج (Inter-noviciat) هذه الندوة التي تجمع بيوت الابتداء في مصر من عدَّة رهبانيات رجاليَّة ونسائيَّة. بعنوان نذر العفة الذي قدَّمه الأب نادر ميشيل اليسوعي.

قام فوّاز يوم الاثنين 24 آذار/مارس 2025 بإبراز النذور الأولى، وكان وقت الاستعداد للنذور مميزًا للغاية. فقد استقبلنا في جماعة القديس أغناطيوس الرئيس العام للرهبنة اليسوعية، وهو اللقاء الذي منحنا فرصة للتأمل والتعمّق في معنى الحياة الرهبانية والنذور.

Après avoir obtenu l’accord pour mon projet de thèse, j’ai dû me prépa-rer pour ma « Lectio Coram ». Selon les normes de l’Institut Pontificale Oriental (PIO), un an après l’approbation du projet, l’étudiant est invité à présenter une conférence publique sur le thème de sa thèse, appelée « Lec-tio Coram », devant une Commission de trois membres nommés par le Doyen. La Lectio prend la forme d’un débat entre le doctorant et la Com-mission. Celle-ci, après une évaluation approfondie, émettra un avis écrit contraignant pour la poursuite du doctorat.

La visite que le Père Arturo Sosa a faite à la communauté Saint-Ignace a eu un impact profond sur chacun de nous, scolastiques de la Compagnie. Cet impact a dépassé toutes nos attentes. Ce ne fut pas simplement une rencontre pastorale ou une visite officielle, ce fut surtout une rencontre fraternelle.

A few months ago, when bombs were falling on the country and on Beirut, it was uncertain whether I could be with you on this occasion. Yet, I deeply wished it would be possible. Today, I am truly delighted that the situation, which has so profoundly changed since then, allows me to be here. I am very pleased to be able to join you in celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Saint Joseph University of Beirut and, through this celebration, to express the deep attachment and esteem of the Society of Jesus.

Dear Rachel,
I have just received horrifying news about what happened in Bethlehem after Joseph, the child, and I left that night… The king’s soldiers came and slaughtered the children without mercy. Neither the mothers’ pleas nor the fathers’ courage could stop them!

As you will be visiting the CJC tomorrow and seeing how the Society of Jesus in Lebanon is responding to this crisis effectively, I would like to share with you how I, as a Jesuit, experience this impoverishment of the Lebanese population on a spiritual and human level.

On the first day when the war escalated here in Beirut, a mother from our parish called me. “Brother, if it gets bad can we come stay in the church?” She her children were living in Dahiyye, a neighborhood that was likely to face heavy bombing if the war picked up.

In the following lines, I will share my personnal experience with the uprising that took place on the midst of October 2019. For those who are coming from abroad, the protests took place here, just few meters away. So, I couldn’t stay in my room and watch the event through my window. The temptation to join the gathered people was so great and noble.

The blast in the port of Beirut was not just one of many that I have experienced, sometimes very closely, as a war child. Beirut blast on 4 august 2020 was an earthquake, an upheaval, an apocalypse.

The October 17, 2019 revolution in Lebanon was a profound experience for me, filled with enthusiasm, contradictions, personal challenges, and deep wounds. From the very first days, I was swept up by the momentum of Lebanese youth dreaming of a better country, free from corruption and systemic injustices. Their energy, determination, and hope were contagious, and I felt immense joy in being among them, sharing their struggle, and marching alongside them in the streets of Beirut and other cities.

Today, I want to share with you how Collège Notre-Dame de Jamhour faced and survived some of the worst crises in Lebanon’s history. Between 2017 and 2023, Lebanon experienced political turmoil, economic collapse, social unrest, and national disasters—each one threatening the very existence of its institutions, especially schools. Yet, despite these challenges, Jamhour endured, adapted, and even thrived, thanks to the support of some Jesuits, friends, families and benefactors. Let’s look at how the school navigated each crisis.

I will speak about what the recent war between Hezbollah and Israel stirred within me. Like many Lebanese—perhaps all—I felt a deep and overwhelming uncertainty about what this war would mean for our country. This uncertainty was already deeply rooted, given the more than two-year-long presidential vacuum and the gradual disintegration of state institutions.

في يوم الأحد الموافق 12 كانون الثاني (يناير)، اجتمع مجموعة من الدارسين اليسوعيين، في مرحلة التدريب الرسوليّ، من مصر ولبنان والولايات المتحدة الأميركية في لقاء عبر الفيديو لمناقشة تجاربهم في الحياة الرسولية والتحديات التي يواجهونها. شارك في اللقاء جوزيف أشرف ورودي خليل الدارسَين في مصر، ومايكل جبريال ومايكل بيترو في لبنان، ودانيال عطالله في سوريا. وذلك تحت إشراف الأب ريكاردو خيمينيز، مسؤول التكوين في الإقليم.

“I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church,” we profess in the Creed. But where is the one true Church to be found? The Orthodox claim that theirs is the one true Church, as do the Roman Catholics. Which is correct? There cannot be two true Churches, so it would seem that, to be a member of the one true Church, one has to choose either to be an Orthodox or a Roman Catholic.

More than one of the five Tertians enrolled in the Nicholas Kluiters European Tertianship Programme had to hear that question from friendly companions. Thankfully, the common response was a big smile. Eziokwu, Artur, Shigi, Matthew and Krystian met in Cairo last September for the launching of the 2024-2025 class.

A la fin de l’année 2024, fin octobre et début décembre, j’ai accepté de donner deux retraites a des prêtres diocésains, l’une pour ceux d’Assiout et l’autre pour ceux de Souhag. Compte tenu de leur emploi du temps, chaque retraite a eu lieu du lundi au jeudi. Ce fut une expérience enrichissante qui m’a poussé à réfléchir sur ce service d’Eglise.

كنا 10: 4 من الجزائر، 2 من تركيا، 2 من المغرب، 1 من إسبانيا و1 من إيطاليا. بالنسبة للجزء الأكبر، كنا منتظمين للمجموعة، باستثناء “فيكتور راموس”، الذي شارك لأول مرة.

L’année 2024 a été particulièrement violente dans notre région.  Nous avons vu la destruction de Gaza, et la violence dans la Cisjordanie. La région frontalière israélo-libanaise a été continuellement bombardée avec des centaines de milliers de personnes qui ont dû quitter leurs habitations des deux côtés de la frontière. Fin septembre 2024 cette guerre a franchi un nouveau palier avec des bombardements israéliens de la banlieue sud, étendus rapidement à tout le Liban où il y avait des membres de Hezbollah.

إن الساعات الأولى من سقوط النظام في سوريا، اختلطت فيها ثلاثة مشاعر لدى العديد من الناس ومنهم نحن. تمازج كلّ من الصدمة تّجاه سرعة الأحداث، والفرح تّجاه عبءٍ أُزيل عن صدر الحريّة، وتساؤلٍ لا يخلو من القلق عمّا ستحمله الأيّام القادمة.

Après plus de 30 heures de voyage commencé à Mexico, le 1er novembre 2021, je suis arrivé à Alger. C’était encore l’époque de la pandémie, et chaque voyage devenait une véritable odyssée. Avec une grande joie, les jésuites m’attendaient à l’aéroport, car cela faisait déjà plusieurs années qu’aucun nouveau jésuite n’avait rejoint cette mission. Enfin, j’étais là.

مع انتهاء فصل الصيف الذي حمل لي العديد من الأحداث البارزة، وعلى رأسها رسامتي الكهنوتية، عدت إلى باريس لمواصلة دراستي. أنا الآن في السنة الثانية من برنامج الماجستير في اللاهوت الرعوي العملي في “Facultés Loyola Paris”. اخترت العائلة موضوعًا لرسالتي، مستلهِمًا من رسالة البابا فرنسيس “فرح الحبّ”. يتجلى هدفي الأساسي في استكشاف رؤية الكنيسة الحالية للعائلة، بما تتضمنه من تحديات وتساؤلات، ثم البحث عن طرق جديدة لمرافقة العائلات التي تواجه صعوبات، وتساعدها على السير في طريقها رغم كل العقبات.

ما أحياه هذه الأيام هو انتظارٌ بالمعنى الحرفيّ؛ أترقّب وأنتظر الكثيرَ من الأمور؛ أنتظر انتهاء هذه المرحلة الأولى من دراسة اللاهوت في باريس، وأنتظر تحديد مصير المرحلة القادمة من الدراسات، ما هي وأين ستكون؟ أنتظر أيضًا الفروغ من رسالة التّخرّج ومناقشتها؛ كما قلت: “أنا أنتظر الكثير”.

وصلتُ إلى مدينة ميلانو بإيطاليا منذ خمسة أشهر، وأشعر مؤخرًا أنّني وجدتُ الإيقاع اليوميّ المريح بين الدراسة والحياة الجماعيّة والصلاة، بعد فترة من التأقلم والاكتشاف والتي بدأت بتعلُّم اللغة، حيث شعرتُ كأنّني طفل يسعى إلى التعبير عن نفسه والتواصل مع الأخرين بكلمات قليلة وصِيَغ بدائية، إنها خبرة مُثابَرة وصبر. في حين كان اكتشاف جمال المدينة ومعالمها الثقافيّة خبرة غنيّة وممتعة، خصوصًا مؤسّساتها الفنّيّة وتقدير مجتمعها للفنون، وهو السبب الرئيسيّ الذي جعلني اختارها كمكان لدراسة الفنّ، فبها “أكاديميّة بريرا للفنون” حيث بدأتُ دراساتي العليا في النحت، وبها أيضًا “مؤسسة سان فيديلي الثقافيّة والفنّيّة” للرهبانيّة اليسوعيّة التي أعيش في جماعتها.

Je suis heureux de partager avec vous, Jésuites et amis de la Compagnie, ma contribution au dialogue œcuménique entre l’Eglise catholique et l’Eglise assyrienne de l’Orient.

دخلَ بيشوي إيليا جاد عبد المسيح قبلَ سنتين وأيام إلى بيت الابتداء في مصر. جاء من القوصية، مصر (1992)، ليميّز دعوته ويثبتها، ليتأمّل حياته ويجد المعنى الذي يرغب في أن يعيشَ من أجله. قضى سنتي الابتداء، ثمّ أتى إلى لبنان ليكملَ تكريسه بإبرازه للنذور الأولى في الرهبانيّة اليسوعيّة، ويدخل في جسم الرهبانيّة رويدًا رويدًا ليتكّون وينمو في دعوته. كانت الخطوة الأولى الاحتفال بالقدّاس الإلهيّ، حيث نذرَ فيه الفقرَ والعفّة والطاعة الدائمة في الرهبانيّة اليسوعيّة، يوم الاثنين 4 تشرين الثاني-نوفمبر 2024، في كابيلّا القدّيس يوسف في دير الآباء اليسوعيين في الأشرفيّة.

Depuis le début des attaques israéliennes sur le Liban, nous nous sommes mobilisés, aumônerie de l’Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth et association Al Mazeed (Magis) – ONG rattachée à l’USJ – pour venir en aide aux familles déplacées.

From the early beginnings of the Society of Jesus, dating back to the time of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Rome has held a unique position within its mission, particularly in the realm of academic engagement. Even today, Jesuits in Rome are deeply involved in universal apostolic works, with a significant focus on academic efforts at the Pontifical Gregorian University, the Pontifical Biblical Institute, and the Pontifical Oriental Institute. These institutions, historically entrusted to the care of the Society, are directly overseen by the Superior General, with the Father Delegate acting on his behalf. They attract students from all over the world, offering formation both at the undergraduate level (First Cycle) and in specialized programs at the graduate level (Second Cycle and Doctoral studies).

The Amman Marathon takes place annually once a year. It was held in the morning on 4th October,2024. The starting line for 10 km was opposite the Royal cultural center. The finish line was Downtown at the Roman Amphitheater.

تعرّفوا إلى المبتدئين الثلاثة الجدد الذين يعيشون اليوم في دير القديس أثناسيوس، وهو بيت الابتداء للرهبنة اليسوعيّة في الشرق الأوسط والمغرب العربيّ، الذي يقع في شبرا ـ القاهرة.

بعد زيارتَين قصيرتَين للشام خلال شهرَي أيّار وتموز، وصلتُ من جديد يوم 5 آب لأستقرّ في بيت القديس ألبيرتو اليسوعيّ – جرمانا، وأبدأ فترة التدريب الرسولي ضمن مسيرة تكويني في الرهبنة. بعد أن تلقّيت اقتراح الكتابة عن خبرتي، تساءلتُ عن أي خبرة سأكتب وأنا ما زلتُ في البداية، لذلك قرّرتُ أن أؤجّل الكتابة إلى أقصى تاريخ ممكن، وها أنا أكتشف في الأسبوع الأخير ثمرة مهمّة أقطفها وأرغب أن أتكلّم عنها.

Le mois d’août était l’occasion de visiter le Mexique, ma famille et les jésuites de la Province. Après avoir passé deux semaines de vacances en famille, à Torreón, dans le nord du Mexique, je me suis déplacé à Guadalajara (Oued el Hadjara), où la Compagnie de Jésus dirige deux collèges et une grande université (ITESO), où des scolastiques des diverses provinces d’Amérique Latine et des Etats Unis étudient le premier ou seconde cycle de Philosophie et Sciences Sociales.

وصلت في شهر أيلول/سبتمبر من السنة الماضية إلى مدينة نامور Namur في بلجيكا وذلك من أجل القيام بخدمات رعوية أساسية في أبرشية إقليم نامور. أبرشية نامور لها انتشار كبير في ريف بلجيكا الناطقة باللغة الفرنسية ويبلغ عدد كنائسها (رعاياها) حوالي ال ٧٥٠ كنيسة يخدمها ٢٣٠ كاهن أكثر من ثلهم أجانب من أصول أفريقية بمعظمهم، ومن الثلثين المتبقيين من الكهنة البجيكيين تبلغ نسبة من هم من أصول أجنبية أكثر من النص.

En tant que responsable de la catéchèse pour toutes les communautés catholiques de Damas et Banlieue et, récemment de l’ensemble de la Syrie, deux sujets essentiels me préoccupent : la formation des catéchètes et le programme.

« Sauver la proposition de l’autre », voici le point de départ intellectuel aussi bien que spirituel qui m’a fait rentrer dans une mission chère à la compagnie, à savoir annoncer l’Évangile à la frontière. Je suis reconnaissant à P. Michel Fédou qui m’a accompagné vers cette découverte pendant mes études au Centre Sèvres. Grâce à son approche dialogale, j’ai appris l’appréciation du patrimoine copte, en m’enracinant dans mon Église. Cette approche vise à approfondir la compréhension de l’autre sans abandonner notre identité en évitant un syncrétisme superficiel afin d’atteindre une rencontre authentique.

Environ 85 jésuites de la Province du Proche-Orient et du Maghreb, qui comprend l’Algérie, l’Égypte, l’Irak, la Jordanie, le Liban, le Maroc, la Syrie, la Terre Sainte et la Turquie, se sont réunis dans la Bekaa libanaise, au monastère de Taanayel, pour réécouter les appels et les défis de leurs pays. C’est au cœur de la spiritualité ignatienne de voir la réalité qui nous entoure, de bien écouter ses besoins, de la mettre dans notre prière, de discerner l’appel du Seigneur, de choisir et de décider ce qu’il faut faire selon “Sa volonté”.

Approximately 85 Jesuits from the Near East and Maghreb Province, which includes Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, the Holy Land and Turkey, gathered in the Lebanese Bekaa in the monastery of Taanayel to listen again to the calls and the challenges of their countries. It is at the heart of Ignatian spirituality to see the reality around us, to listen well to its needs, to put this in our prayer, to discern the call of the Lord, to choose and decide what to do according to “His will”.

إجتمع ما يُقارب ٨٥ يسوعيّ من إقليم الشرق الأدنى والمغرب العربيّ الّذي يضمّ: الجزائر ومصر والعراق والأردنّ ولبنان والمغرب وسوريا والأراضي المقدّسة وتركيا، في البقاع اللبنانيّ بدير تعنايل، ليُصغو من جديد إلى نداءات بلدانهم وتحدّياتها التي تمرّ بها. فمن صُلب الروحانيّة الإغناطيّة هي أن نرى الواقع من حولنا، ونسمع جيّدًا إلى احتياجاته، لنضع ذلك في صلاتنا، ونُميّز دعوة الربّ، فنختار ونُقرّر ما يتوجّب علينا  فعله.

J’enseigne à l’IER (Institut d’Education Religieuses) à Sakakini, Le Caire, aux étudiants de la deuxième année, la matière des « Sacrements ». Les locaux actuels de l’Institut, fondé en 1994 [quoique les tous débuts aient eu lieu au début des années 1970 dans d’autres lieux], se trouvent au quartier de Sakakini (à 3 Km de notre Collège jésuite de Faggalah), dans l’enceinte de l’église latine des Pères Comboniens.

J’arrivais à cette étape de ma vie avec un sentiment de gratitude et de confiance profonde envers le Seigneur. Je rendais grâce à Dieu pour ces 53 années de vie (depuis 1971), ces 27 années de vie religieuse (depuis 1997) et ces 12 années de sacerdoce. Comme le dit le psalmiste : « Que de merveilles le Seigneur fit pour nous ! Nous étions comblés de joie ! » (Ps 125, 3).

Pendant quatre jours, du 9 au 12 juillet 2024, nous nous sommes retrouvés, Jad Jabbour et moi, à Malte pour participer à une session de formation organisée pour les formateurs dans la Compagnie. Nous étions une bonne douzaine de jésuites en provenance de provinces d’Europe et de Proche Orient. Le thème de cette année « Towards a Healthy Jesuit Life » a attiré moins de personnes que celui de l’année dernière qui portait sur « Affectivity and Sexuality » !!!

La session s’est déroulée à Berlin (Allemagne), une ville avec une grande diversité d’origines et de religions, et une histoire d’intenses bouleversements politiques. Le groupe JAM quelques séances avec le groupe de Jésuites et Juifs (J&J). Le lieu de la session a été la Katholische Akademie, un lieu de culture, d’échange et de réflexion dont le leitmotive est Penser, Croire, Questionner. Cet institut fait en même temps de l’hôtellerie, ce qui aide au financement des activités académiques.

عُقِدَ لقاء الدارسين اليسوعيين في بكفيا بين ٢٠ و٢٥ تموز/يوليو. وقد كان اللقاء الأخير الذي جمعهم في صيف ٢٠١٩. كان مُنشّط اللقاء جاد جبور اليسوعي. وكان الهدف من اللقاء مساعدة الدارسين على التعرف بشكل أعمق على بعضهم، ومشاركة خبراتهم ومسيراتهم المختلفة في الرهبنة. لذلك كان اليوم الأوّل من اللقاء مُخصّص بكامله للمشاركة بما عاشه كلّ واحد في الرهبنة وكيف كان الله حاضرًا ويعمل في حياته. واحتفل بالقدّاس على الطقس القبطي الكاهن الجديد جوزيف جبرايل اليسوعيّ. وكان اليوم الثاني فرصة لقضاء وقت مجاني معًا. فكان النصف الأوّل من اليوم مخصّص لقضاء وقت خارج الدير. فجزء من الدارسين ذهب في مسير في وادي الصليب. وأمّا الجزء الثاني ذهب إلى البحر. وفي مساء ذلك اليوم توجّه الجميع إلى مدرسة سيدة الجمهور للمشاركة في قداس النذور الاحتفالية للآب جاد شبلي اليسوعي.

يتيح العمل في الرسالة على مشاهدة حضور الله في خليقته، وتلمّس أعماله الجميلة والمحيّة في كلّ مخلوقاته. لكن هذه المشاهدة ليست سهلة، لأنّها تحتاج إلى قراءة يوميّة للأحداث والمواقف على ضوء نظر الله المحبّ.

It has been a challenging year for many migrants in Lebanon. Our community members have weathered rising rents and scarcer work, fears of expanding conflict, travel restrictions, and a whole host of daily difficulties. And yet, Easter joy abounds! The joy of the resurrection was made obvious this last week here in the AMC. Our whole community gathered for the Paschal Triduum to walk with Christ through his death and resurrection.

The third batch of tertians in Bikfaya have just graduated their school of the heart. Theirs has been a very particular class. It is true of every class, and of each tertian. But armed conflicts leading to displacements and disruptions are not a common tertianship experiment. I am so grateful that all participants kept safe and well, and even drew no little spiritual profit from the difficult situation in which they found themselves.

Qu’est-ce que vous faites à Ankara? Telle est souvent une des premières questions que j’entends lorsque je voyage. Chacun de nous quatre avons bien sûr nos activités habituelles: Michael écrit pour diverses publications (maintenant sur “l’appel universel à la sainteté”); Changmo étudie le turc, commence à s’engager avec les jeunes à la paroisse et s’acclimate peu à peu à la Turquie; Alexis, responsable de cette paroisse turcophone et de la formation de ses catéchumènes, est également impliqué dans des médias et la gestion pratique de la résidence; quant à moi, supérieur de celle-ci, je travaille dans la formation et l’accompagnement au service de l’Église de Turquie, et ai quelques engagements en dehors du pays pour le dialogue interreligieux, à divers titres.

Dans le cadre de la fin de leur service à l’hôpital, l’Hôtel Dieu de France a organisé une cérémonie de reconnaissance en l’honneur du Père Alain Elias et du Frère Joseph Achraf s.j.

في حمص، في المدينة الّتي لم يخذلها ولن يتركها الأب فرانس، اجتمع لفيف من المؤمنين بحضور ممثّلي الكنيسة المحلّيّة بأطيافها كافّة، حبًّا ورغبة في الاحتفال وشكر الله على شهادة هذا الكاهن الهولّنديّ الّذي قدّم لأبناء سوريا الكثير حتّى الموت.

Fifty-five years after the expulsion of the Jesuits of Al Hikma University from Iraq in 1969—the Jesuits of Baghdad College had already been expelled in 1968—the Jesuits have bought a house in Baghdad.

Comme de nombreux compagnons jésuites, je suis enseignant à l’USJ, à Beyrouth et sur le campus de Tripoli. De plus, je suis enseignant à Sciences-Po Paris depuis 11 ans.

اجتمع الآباء اليسوعيون في مصر يومي الخميس والجمعة الموافق 7 و 8 مارس بمدرسة العائلة المقدسة بالقاهرة، لإحياء اللقاء القطريّ السنويّ تحت عنوان “الذكاء الاصطناعي”. وخلال هذين اليومين كان هناك فرصة للصلاة والاحتفال بالقداس الإلهيّ ولقاءات محبة لتبادل الأخبار وأيضًا كان هناك وقت لمناقشة ثلاثة مواضيع هامّة.

اجتمعت جماعة القدّيس يوسف يوم السبت 16 آذار/ مارس 2024 لخلوتها في دير سيّدة الجمهور. ابتدأنا بصلاة الصباح مع نشيد للمسيح السيّد والخادم المتواضع والأمين، تبعه تلاوة المزمور 85، وثمّ قراءة من رسالة القدّيس بولس الأولى إلى تسالونيقي (1: 26 – 31)؛ وختمنا الصلاة مع طلبة “الأكتينيا” التي تُتلى بعد العظة في القدّاس البيزنطي.

أثناء دراستي الفلسفة بدأتُ أتساءل بشكلٍ أعمق عن ماهيّة الرسالة ومعناها بالنسبة لي، وأَخَذَ الجواب يتشكّل بداخلي تدريجيًّا حتّى مرحلة التدريب الرسوليّ، حيث عشتُ الرسالة واختبرتُ معناها “كحياة مشاركة”، مشاركة حياتي واختباري لله مع الآخرين من جهة، واستقبالي لمشاركات الأخرين لي واختبارهم الخاصّ للحياة من جهة أُخرى، حياة مُشاركة تُثمِر المزيد من الحياة، هي مشاركة تجلّيّات الله داخل كلّ منّا واكتشاف منابع الحبّ الموجود فينا، تلك التجلّيّات المتساوية في القيمة والقُدسيّة والمختلفة في الشكل والصياغة والتسمية، وهذا الحبّ الذي لا يمكن إعادة اكتشافه إلّا من خلال مغامرة نخوضها معًا كشركاء.

حين شاركتُ الصيف الماضي في نهاية اليوم الأوّل من مخيّم العمل الرعوي الجامعي، كنّا نتحدّث عن موضوع الصلاة. وقتئذٍ، شبّهتُ الوقتَ الذي يقضيه الشخص في الصلاة، بالوقت الذي يقضيه صيّاد السمك أمام البحر. أمّا الآن، وأنا أفكّر في خبرتي الرسوليّة التي أقوم بها كدارس يسوعي، إلى جانب دراسة الفلسفة والحضارة العربيّة، فإنّ الصورة نفسها تعود إليّ.

اكتشفت أن رسالتي كمرافق روحي لفريق المسرح، لا يتوقف على تحضير الصلوات ورسم مسيرة معيّنة، بل هي أن أكون حاضرًا لكلّ فرد من المجموعة، وأن أسهر على خلق روح فريق منفتح للآخر، غير متقوقع على نفسه. وخلق المساحات الآمنة ضمن الفريق للتعبير، والانفتاح على علاقة حرّة مع الله.

خبرتي الرّسوليّة مع مركز الشّبيبة الكاثوليكيّة (CJC)، دائمًا أشعر بقلبي ينفطر وجعًا لآلام الناس وأجوائهم. ففي كلّ مرةٍ أردتُ أنْ أشجعهم وأبثَّ الأمل في نفوسهم، من ناحية الأحوال الاقتصاديّة، ومرارة المعيشة، ومتطلباتها الكثيرة، كنتُ أرى الرّضى والشّكر على وجوههم وفي كلماتهم…

العمل الرسولي في مستشفى Hotel-Dieu هو فرصة لكسر نمط العمل الفكريّ البحت للفلسفة. وفرصة للالتقاء بأشخاص فقراء. ليسوا بالضرورة فقراء على المستوى المادّي، ولكن فقراء على المستوى المعنويّ أو النفسيّ أو الروحيّ. أشخاص مُحبطون يشعرون بالعجز، ولا يعرفون ماذا يمكنهم أن يفعلوا تجاه أنفسهم، أو تجاه من يُحبّون.

“أن تكون رسالتي مع الأولاد، هذا آخر ما أتوقّعه”. جملة تجد مكانها بين أفكاري حول امكانيّاتي ورغباتي في العمل الرسوليّ في الرهبانيّة اليسوعيّة. لطالما فضّلت رسالة مع الشباب والشابات في سنّ العشرين. ناضجون، وعقلانيّون، ويبحثون عن معنى حياتهم.

بدأت حركة إيمان ونور في مصر في القاهرة مع الحج الذي كان في لورد – فرنسا سنة 1981، ثم في الاسكندرية 1984. وبدأت انا الأب عادل زكا في جزويت المنيا اول جماعة إيمان في الصعيد بعد خبرة خمسة سنوات في لبنان في سنة 1987م وانطلقت من هنا كل جماعات مصر.

S’il n’y avait pas Noël, je crois que je ne pourrais pas vous souhaiter une bonne nouvelle année. Le Prince de la paix qui vient, peut-il nous sauver vraiment d’une haine qui ne semble pas vouloir s’arrêter ? Devons-nous choisir un camp qui devrait nier le droit à l’existence de l’autre ? Quelqu’un pourrait-il se voir attribuer, selon l’expression d’un philosophe, “le péché d’exister ” ? La fraternité entre tous, oui tous, est-elle définitivement un rêve dépassé ? Chacun son camp, son clan ? Non, je ne m’y résous pas, sinon celui de toutes les mamans et de tous les enfants. Le Prince de la Paix travaille encore et toujours le cœur des artisans de paix. Ils sont plus nombreux qu’on ne les voit et comme toujours plus discrets. J’ai entendu une maman israélienne avec son enfant mort penser aux mamans de Gaza qui pleurent aussi leurs enfants.

Depuis un an et quelques mois je me lance dans une nouvelle expérience tant existentielle que spirituelle. En effet, j’essaie de creuser une question bien précise qui est venue m’habiter suite à la grave crise économique qui secoue le Liban depuis octobre 2019 et qui est loin d’être dépassée.

تحت شعار: «كونوا في الرجاء فرحين، وفي الشّدّة صابرين، وعلى الصلاة مواظبين” (روم 12: 12)، اجتمع حوالى مائة مكرّس ومكرّسة يعملون في سورية لمدّة ثلاثة أيّام (12-14 ت1/أكتوبر 2023)، في فندق الوادي بالمشتاية (وادي النصارى) للنقاش والتفكير في رسالة الكنيسة اليوم.

منذ سنة استلمت إدارة مسكن الطلاب (Foyer USJ) التابع لجامعة القدّيس يوسف والكائن بين حرم “العلوم الطبّية” وحرم “الابتكار والرياضة”. يحتوي المبنى على 6 طوابق منقسمَين إلى جزئَين : جزء للشباب وعددهم 36، وجزء للبنات وعددهم 63.

كما درجتِ العادةُ في الرَّهبانيَّة عمومًا وفي إقليمنا خصوصًا، وبناءً على طلبِ الرّئيسِ الإقليميّ، قامَ دارسو اللاهوتِ في فرنسا (Premiere Cycle) بعقدِ شهرِ آروبه في سوريّا ما بينَ الخامس وحتّى السابعِ والعشرين (5-27) من شهر آب 2023، مع الآبّ مراد أبو سيف.

ما من إنسانٍ على كوكب الأرض إلّا ولديه حلمًا صغيرًا كان أم كبيرًا، فمنّا من يحلم بأن يكون طبيبًا، وآخر أن يُصبح فنّانًا تشكيليًّا، وآخر موسيقيًّا، أو مهندسًا، أو مُديرًا، أو… إلّا أنّه ومع مرور الأيّام، ننصدم بواقعٍ يأكل جزءًا من حلمنا، أو بظروف قاسيةٍ تُحطّمنا، إلى أن تتلاشى أحلامنا شيئًا فشيئًا وتتحوّل إلى مُجرَّد أفكارٍ خياليّة غير قابلة للتطبيق، وتُصبح واقعةً في هاويةٍ أو مُعلّقة بنجمة صعب أن تطالها أيدينا.

“حجارة حيّة” (Living Stones)، هكذا كان عنوان مخيّم العمل الرّعويّ الجامعيّ في حدشيت هذا الصّيف. جمع المخيّم أكثر من مائةٍ وعشرين مشتركًا.

الانسجام بين عيش الحياة الروحية والرسالة، من أسس التكوين اليسوعي. لذا رأت الرهبنة أن تُعد اليسوعيين إلى الرسالة بتكوينهم على فن القيادة الإغناطية. فكان اللقاء هذا العام في (الكامبيون هولCampion Hall ) بمدينة اوكسفورد ببريطانيا. ولمدة اسبوعين بحضور عشرة شباب يسوعيين من سبع جنسيات، لمعرفة كيف يمكن أن ينموا كقادة مميزين في خدمة الكنيسة والرهبنة في العالم اجمع.

منذ سنة 2006 وحتى الان أعمل أنا أبونا عادل زكا اليسوعي رياضات روحية في صعيد مصر حيث يوجد أكثر عدد من المؤمنين المسيحيين. كان يقدم هذه الرياضات الأب هانس بوتمان والأب حنا فور في اسيوط.

كلُّ الطُّرُقِ لا تُؤَدّي إلى إسبانيا…لكن شاءتِ العناية الإلهيّة، وبقرارٍ من الرُّؤَساء، أن أذهبَ إلى إسبانيا، بعد ثلاث سنواتٍ من دراسة اللّاهوت في فرنسا.

توجّه ثلاثة يسوعيّين هم الأب نادر ميشيل من مصر، والأب فؤاد نخلة من سوريا، والدارس دانيال عطالله من لبنان، إلى أربيل، وبشكل خاص لمدينة عينكاوة، للمشاركة في أيّام عينكاوة للشباب التي امتدّت من 29 حزيران/يونيو إلى 1 تموز/يوليو 2023، تحت عنوان “إصنعوا هذا لذكري”.

تكلَّمَ قَداسَةُ البابا اليَومَ على الأبِ المكرَّمِ ماتّيو ريتشي وغَيْرَتِهِ الإنجيليَّة، وقال: دخلَ الأبُ ماتّيو ريتشي الرَّهبنةَ اليسوعيّةِ في روما، وطَلَبَ فيما بعد أنْ يُرسَلَ إلى الإرساليّاتِ في الشَّرقِ الأقصَى. لذلكَ بدأَ بدراسةِ اللغةِ والعاداتِ الصِّينيَّة، قَبلَ أنْ يَدخُلَ ويَستَقِرَّ في الصِّين. وتَحَلَّى بالصَّبرِ والثَّبات، وكانَ مُفعَمًا بإيمانٍ راسخ، الأمرُ الَّذي مكَّنَهُ مِن التَّغَلُّبِ على الصُّعوباتِ والمخاطر. وهناك تَبِعَ دائمًا طريقَ الحوارِ والصَّداقةِ معَ جميعِ الأشخاصِ الَّذين التَقَى بِهِم، ما فتحَ أمامَهُ الأبوابَ الكثيرة لإعلانِ الإيمانِ المسيحيّ. وَلِيَنغَرِسَ في الثَّقافةِ والحياةِ الصِّينيَّة، اِتَّبَعَ أسلوبَ حياةٍ وملابسَ الأُدَباء. فدرسَ نصوصَهُم الكلاسيكيَّةِ بِعُمق، حتَّى يَتَمَكَّنَ مِن تقدِيمِ المسيحيَّةِ لهم. كان الأبُ ماتّيو ريتشي رجلَ عِلم، فَمَعرِفَتُهُ في عِلمِ الرّياضات والفَلَك، ساهَمتْ في بناءِ لقاءاتٍ مُثمِرَةٍ بينَ ثقافةِ وعِلمِ الغربِ والشَّرق. ومِن هنا استطاعَ أنْ يُعلِنَ الإيمانَ والأخلاقَ المسيحيَّة. وكانت شهادَتُهُ في الحياةِ الدِّينيَّة، وفي الفضيلةِ والصَّلاة، وفي محبَّتِهِ وتواضُعِهِ وعدَمِ اهتمامِهِ بالتَّكريمِ والغِنَى، هي الَّتي دَفَعَتْ الكثيرَ مِن تلاميذِهِ وأصدقائِهِ الصِّينيِّينَ إلى قَبولِ الإيمانِ الكاثوليكيّ. محبَّتُهُ للشَّعبِ الصِّيني، الَّتي أظهَرَها عَمَلِيًّا في صداقَتِهِ الَّتي بادَلَهُ إيّاها الصِّينِيّون، بَقِيَتْ مَصدَرَ إلهامٍ دائمٍ ليسَ فقط لكلِّ عَلاقَةٍ بينَ الكنيسةِ الكاثوليكيَّةِ والصِّين، بلْ أيضًا بينَ الثَّقافةِ الغربيَّةِ والثَّقافةِ الصِّينيّة، حتَّى يستطيعَ الرِّجالُ والنّساءُ مِن كلِّ بلدٍ أن يعيشوا إخوةً وأخوات.

لن يفتني الحديث عن أولئك الذين نتشارك معهم رسالاتنا ونتقاسم وإيّاهم الخبرات والحياة أيضًا بشكلٍ ما، والذين لم يلفت انتباهي أمرٌ بغاية الإعجاب والاحترام أكثر منهم. إنّهم أشخاصٌ؛ رجال ونساء، شبّان وشابّات مملوئين بالحبّ والأمل، نعم! كلّ شيءٍ هنا يؤكد تلك الشهادة. فأناسٌ تلمّ بهم كلّ تلك الصعوبات ويعترض سبيل حياتهم هذا الكمّ من العقبات ورغمًا عن ذلك يدرسون ويعملون ويخدمون ويتطوّعون ويبدعون ويبتكرون ويفرحون ويحتفلون هم فعليًّا نموذجٌ شديد الفرادة، وكم أفخر لكوني عضوٌ في هذا الجسد الرسوليّ العظيم!

الاربعاء، رحل واحد من علماء الشرق وفلاسفته، هو الأب هنري بولاد اليسوعي الذي تعرّفت عليه من كتاباته، ولم تتسنّ لي معرفته الشخصية، لانه امضى اكثر من خمسين سنة من رسالته في مصر. كان ثائرا الى حد كبير في كتاباته، من دون ان يخرج عن العقيدة الكاثوليكية، لكنه اعتمد قراءات وتفسيرات اكثر حداثة. ولا اعلم ما اذا كان من ضمن المصنّفين “لاهوتيي التحرر”، لأنني لم اطّلع على تجربتهم كفاية. لكن كتابات الأب بولاد كانت تحرّض على الانعتاق من الافكار الجامدة والتقاليد المتوارثة، والبالية، وتدعو الى فهم عصري للاديان، والجمع ما بين العلوم الدينية وتلك العقلية المعرفية العلمية، فلم يجد يوما تناقضا ما بين دين ودنيا.

         وُلد هِنري بُولاد في الإسكندريّة من والِدَيْن مِصريَّيْن، أصلهما من الشّوام، بالإضافة إلى أُصول والدته الأُوروبِّيّة. ودرس في مدرسة سان مارك – الفِرير (إخوة المدارس المسيحيّة). وبعد المسار الابتدائيِّ والإعداديِّ والثانويِّ الفنِّيّ، انتمى إلى الرهبانيّة اليسوعيّة في السنة 1950، حيث مضى سنتيّ الابتداء في بِكفيّا؛ وسنتيّ العُلوم الإنسانيّة في فرنسا، وكذلك ثلاث سنوات الفلسفة؛ وأربع سنوات اللاهوت في لُبنان. وارتسم كاهنًا بحسب الطقس البيزنطيِّ الملَكيِّ في يوليو 1963 ببيروت. وختم تكوينه في الولايات المُتّحدة حيث قام بـ’السنة الثالثة‘ من الابتداء، ونال بعدها درجة دِراسيّة عُليا في التربية وعِلم النفس واللاهوت الرُّوحيّ.

In June 2023, after my only brother emigrated to the Netherlands, I requested permission from the Provincial to spend a period of time in a Jesuit community close to where my mother lives, in Johannesburg, South Africa. Permission was accorded and I moved to the Jesuit community in Auckland Park, a beautiful neighborhood of Johannesburg in January 2023. I returned to South Africa, the place of my birth, after more than forty-five years away.

Au terme de ces six semaines en Espagne, je voudrais rendre grâce pour le parcours qui nous a été proposé, aux sources de la spiritualité ignatienne.

شهدت كنيسة القلب المقدس الكائنة بمدرسة العائلة المقدسة بالفجالة، التابعة لرهبانيَّة الآباء اليسوعيِّين بمصر في الثانية بعد ظهر يوم السبت الموافق 13 / 5 / 2023 صلاة القداس والجنازة للمُنتقل الأب وليم سيدهم اليسوعيِّ، أحد أبناء الرهبانيَّة اليسوعيَّة، ولقد ترأَّس الصلاة مجموعة من الكهنة اليسوعيّين وسط حضور كبير من الآباء الكهنة، والرهبان والراهبات من كل الرهبانيات في مصر. حيث ودَّعَ الرهبان اليسوعيون أخاهم مع الأسرة والأصدقاء من كل الأطياف.

It’s strange to believe that almost three years have passed since arriving to the PRO province. As my time here draws to a close, I am very grateful to all its members for the welcome and possibility of learning and ministering together.

« Le 6 février, le tremblement de terre m’a surpris à Iskenderun. J’avais célébré la messe du dimanche soir dans la cathédrale avec la communauté chrétienne composée de catholiques latins, de maronites, de melkites, d’Arméniens, d’Arabes, de néophytes et de catéchumènes turcs, et je m’étais couché avec en tête tous les rendez-vous et les projets du lendemain. Le tremblement de terre de 4h17 a tout changé. Après deux minutes de secousse, la cathédrale avait disparu ! Dans la cour de l’évêché, il n’y avait que destruction, mort et pleurs.

بعد مرحلة دراسة الفلسفة، بدأت في أغسطس الماضي 2022 مرحلة جديدة، هي مرحلة التدريب الرسوليّ، في محافظة المنيا، إحدى محافظات مصر. والرسالة الّتي تعمل فيها الرهبنة هنا متنوعة: مدرسة الآباء اليسوعييّن ذات التاريخ العريق، أبناء المنطقة، وجمعيّة الجزويت والفرير للتنمية، ومركز جاد السّيد ومركز (YES)، التربوي لخدمات الشباب.

أتيت إلى حمص – سوريا في أيلول (سبتمبر) الماضي، وقد كانت رسالتي الأولى من بعد رسامتي الكهنوتيّة، بعد ثلاثة عشر سنة من الحياة الرهبانيّة، أمضيت معظمها بعيدًا عن سوريا، هذا البلد المتألّم، وعلى الرغم من معرفتي إيّاه عن كثب سابقًا، إلّا أنّ ملامحه قد تغيّرت كثيرًا، وها أنا في طور اكتشافه من جديد.

Le catalogue SJ peut paraître énigmatique sur mes activités en mentionnant -depuis que la nationalité algérienne m’a été accordée en 2006- ma collaboration aux deux associations d’Eglise, si bien que Nader m’a demandé quelques phrases sur ce que je fais. Je vais essayer de dire de quoi il s’agit, dans une première partie ; je parlerai ensuite de ma présence à la bibliothèque Dilou, enfin j’évoquerai un cas particulier ma participation dans la transition du CIARA/DEMJ à la Bouzareah.

Il y a dix ans j’ai été sollicité pour donner un cours à Sciences-Po Paris. Cet établissement a été fondée en 1872 après la guerre franco-allemande de 1870 dans le but de former former de nouvelles élites et produire des savoirs modernes pour une France nouvelle. L’école se situe à Paris mais depuis l’an 2000 des campus ont été délocalisés dans plusieurs villes de France, dont la ville de Menton en 2005. Dans ce campus, les étudiants suivent le même parcours que leurs camarades parisiens mais ils doivent prendre une mineure Méditerranée / Moyen-Orient et étudier les problématiques géopolitiques, économiques et sociales liées à cette région. C’est dans ce campus que je donne mes deux cours durant le second semestre de l’année académique et un séminaire, en septembre de chaque année.
