Agression/abus et spirituel, voici deux notions qui semblent appartenir à deux univers diamétralement opposés. Et pourtant, des comportements transgressifs sont aussi à déplorer dans le cadre de l’accompagnement spirituel, pouvant dans certains cas aller à jusqu’à des agressions sexuelles.
It has been a challenging year for many migrants in Lebanon. Our community members have weathered rising rents and scarcer work, fears of expanding conflict, travel restrictions, and a whole host of daily difficulties. And yet, Easter joy abounds! The joy of the resurrection was made obvious this last week here in the AMC. Our whole community gathered for the Paschal Triduum to walk with Christ through his death and resurrection.
As domestic workers are often only able to leave their employers’ homes for a few hours on Sunday, we have begun live-streaming all of our services, and nearly 700members of our community joined the Easter Vigil online, brining paschal joy even into places of confinement. Likewise, we were able to expand this year into offering Easter mass in Dowra, a neighborhood ofBeirut that is closer to where many migrants and refugees live. OnEaster Sunday, both the AMC and our Dowra mass were fuller than ever! Couples for Christ, Children of Mary, and the Bakhita group, faith groups led by migrants and refugees, prepared a generous meal together for the whole community to share after Mass. Looking around at those who gathered, domestic workers from the Philippines, SriLanka, and all over Africa—from Nigeria to Kenya—refugees fromSudan and South Sudan, Lebanese families, visitors from Europe, and our local Jesuit community, the Kingdom of God never felt so close.Happy Easter from the Arrupe Migrant Center!

“In early November, a delegation of Jesuits in PRO (Frs. Jad Chebly, Gabriel Khairallah, Doug Jones, and Dan Corrou) visited the campus of Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q). They were hosted by Fr. Ryan Maher, S.J. (UEA), who currently teaches at GU-Q and is the only Jesuit on staff. They had the chance to meet with a number of administrators, faculty members, and students. The delegation was invited as part of ongoing discussions between GU-Q, USJ, and JRS as to possible ways to deepen collaboration in teaching, research, and internships.

La présence de la Compagnie de Jésus à Laâyoune, terre de frontière et d’espérance
À l’extrême sud du Maroc, dans la Préfecture apostolique du Sahara, la Compagnie de Jésus a ouvert une nouvelle étape de sa mission au service de l’Église locale et des personnes en transit. Depuis septembre 2024, la communauté Bienheureux Luc Dochier s’est déplacée de Nador à Laâyoune, répondant à l’évolution des routes migratoires.
