Easter Greetings from the AMC!

Easter Greetings from the AMC!

It has been a challenging year for many migrants in Lebanon. Our community members have weathered rising rents and scarcer work, fears of expanding conflict, travel restrictions, and a whole host of daily difficulties. And yet, Easter joy abounds! The joy of the resurrection was made obvious this last week here in the AMC. Our whole community gathered for the Paschal Triduum to walk with Christ through his death and resurrection.

Tertianship is what tertians give to each other

Tertianship is what tertians give to each other

The third batch of tertians in Bikfaya have just graduated their school of the heart. Theirs has been a very particular class. It is true of every class, and of each tertian. But armed conflicts leading to displacements and disruptions are not a common tertianship experiment. I am so grateful that all participants kept safe and well, and even drew no little spiritual profit from the difficult situation in which they found themselves.

My name is Víctor Ramos Talavera, I was born on July 23, 1984 in México. My father is Mario Ramos Torres, and my mother is Victoria Talavera Godinez. I have two brothers older than me. My oldest brother is Pablo, he passed away some years ago. My brother Homero, two years older than me, lives in Vancouver, Canada.

I studied philosophy at university. Some years later, in 2008, I got enrolled in the prenovitiate in México. One year later I went to the novitiate, later on I did my vows on July 30, 2011. I did my first studies in Guadalajara, México. At that time, I did my apostolate in a music project with a group of Mexican indigenous. I did regency in Tijuana, México at Iberoamericana Universtity where I tought Antropology, Ethics and Communication. I studied Theology in Berkeley, CA. in United States. At that time, I did my apostolate with the latino migrants communities and in San Quentin prison state in San Francisco.

I was ordained as priest on July 31, 2020 in Guadalajara, México. I worked one year as vicar in St. Jude parish in Torreón, México. I arrived in Alger on November 1, 2021. I am currently working at the University Cultural Center, where I collaborate in different activities related with arts and culture, especially in the expositions that we have in the gallery.

As a Jesuit, I have always felt called to dialogue with other cultures and religions through arts. For me, Algeria is a privileged place because it is giving me the opportunity to generate an artistic dialogue in which my position as Christian is as a minority. I hope, I will be able to serve the young Muslim university students, and artist, of Algiers with great joy.
