I grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania, a city located between New York and Philadelphia, and graduated from the University of Scranton, a Jesuit school, in 2013, where I first encountered the Jesuits and began discerning my vocation.
Fr. Doug (Douglas) Jones, SJ
“Fr. Doug (Douglas) Jones, SJ is a member of the USA East Province (UEA). He was ordained a priest on June 14, 2025 in New York City. Originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, Doug met the Jesuits while attending The University of Scranton. It was also at university that he spent a semester in Amman and fell in love with the Middle East. He entered the Society of Jesus in August 2016, after completing a doctorate in Middle East politics, which brought him back to Jordan for a year of research.

في يوم 23 أغسطس، تحت سماء القوصية بمحافظة أسيوط، وفي حضن كاتدرائيتها قلب يسوع الأقدس، عاش الجميع لحظات من الفرح الروحيّ، حيث أقيمت حفلة الرسامة الكهنوتية للأب ريمون عماد زكريا، ليُكرَس كاهنًا على مذبح الرب، ويبدأ مسيرته الجديدة في قلب رسالته الخدميّة. وقد تم ذلك بوضع يد صاحب النيافة الأنبا مرقس وليم، مطران ايبارشية القوصيّة للأقباط الكاثوليك.
« La sécurité précède le développement ». Suivant ce dicton, après l’irruption inattendue de la Covid-19 au Liban, les autorités compétentes imposèrent des confinements. Les cours en ligne furent vivement encouragés. L’Université Saint-Joseph expérimenta avec succès le système de cours en ligne grâce à Zoom et Teams. Les cours pourraient être meilleurs en présentiel, certes. Mais à l’impossible nul n’est tenu. C’est avec joie que je me suis soumis aux exigences des cours en ligne. Pour un étudiant en communication, c’était pour moi une application concrète de l’utilisation des nouveaux médias, les Nouvelles Technologies de l’Information et de Communication (NTIC). Au demeurant, je suis content d’avoir validé le programme de Master 2 en Info-Com (M.I.C).
Aussi, qu’il me soit permis de remercier la communauté Saint Joseph qui m’a accueilli durant mon séjour où je me suis senti comme chez moi. C’était une expérience enrichissante de participer à la vie communautaire et de collaborer aux animations eucharistiques à la communauté mais aussi à l’église Saint Joseph. « Quel que soit votre travail, faites-le de bon cœur pour le Seigneur…» (Colossiens 3, 14-24). J’ai participé à la vie de la communauté et à celle de l’église de bon cœur, c’est-à-dire avec un cœur large et généreux. Ceci pour la plus grande gloire de Dieu, mais aussi pour ma propre sanctification et celle des fidèles qui m’ont adopté et accepté tel que je suis.
De l’aveu général un jésuite c’est un pèlerin. C’est un missionnaire itinérant. Sa paroisse c’est le monde. Jeune jésuite encore en formation, je poursuis mon chemin serein et dans la confiance au Seigneur. Je me confie à vos prières pour ma prochaine destination. Aux uns je dis au revoir et merci. Aux autres je dis au revoir, merci et peut-être à bientôt, car à nous jésuites le Christ ne donne pas rendez-vous en Galilée mais plutôt sur les routes du monde. Amitiés !

L’histoire de la Province du Proche-Orient de la Compagnie de Jésus avec la Pastorale universitaire au Liban est ancienne. Dès 1979, le P.
