“Fr. Doug (Douglas) Jones, SJ is a member of the USA East Province (UEA). He was ordained a priest on June 14, 2025 in New York City. Originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, Doug met the Jesuits while attending The University of Scranton. It was also at university that he spent a semester in Amman and fell in love with the Middle East. He entered the Society of Jesus in August 2016, after completing a doctorate in Middle East politics, which brought him back to Jordan for a year of research.

As a Jesuit, Doug has lived in Syracuse, New York (novitiate); Chicago, Illinois (philosophy at Loyola University Chicago); New York City, New York (regency teaching political science at Fordham University); and Boston, Massachusetts (theology at Boston College). After his ordination as a priest this past summer, he spent six weeks at the Jesuit parish in Atlanta, Georgia. In Fall 2026, he will begin teaching political science at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. Doug has worked in many apostolic areas, but he especially loves working with university students and being involved in various retreat programs. He has also come to enjoy parish ministry, both as a deacon and a new priest.

Doug first came to PRO in 2018 as a novice, spending his Long Experiment at Taanayel and working with JRS in Bar Elias. He has spent a number of summers in the province: 2019 in Alexandria at the Jesuit Cultural Center and Jamhour for a JRJ, and 2021, 2022, and 2024 in Beirut. This year, he will collaborate with the USJ Institute of Political Science and the JRS regional office, and will also serve at the English-language parish and the AMC.”

Doug Jones, S.J.

These experiences allowed me to encounter people from diverse backgrounds—Syrian, South Sudanese, and Filipino communities—whose stories and resilience touched me deeply.

How long will it be? (Revelation 6:10)

This morning, an Israeli military attack killed three people: Saad Issa Constandi Salameh, Najwa Abu Daoud and Phemia Ayyad. It wounded several others, including the parish priest, Father Gabriel Romanelli, in the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Gaza. The church and its parish compound have served as a refuge for hundreds of people since the beginning of Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7, 2023. This is not the first time that the Roman Catholic church and the neighbouring Greek Orthodox church have been attacked, and people have been killed on their premises.
