It is both an honor and a privilege to address you today and to share with you the mission, dedication, and ongoing efforts of the CJC family in Zahlé.

Au début, je ne connaissais pas précisément la mission du CJC ni son lien avec les Jésuites. Pourtant, en tant qu’ancienne élève de leurs écoles, je savais une chose : ils ne ferment jamais leur porte à ceux qui frappent. Mais ce n’est que lorsque j’ai commencé à travailler avec eux que j’ai compris la profondeur de leur engagement. J’ai découvert qu’ils ne se contentent pas d’être aux côtés des plus fragiles : ils y sont, pleinement, avec humilité et sincérité, sans chercher ni reconnaissance ni lumière. Ils ne parlent pas de solidarité, ils la vivent.

This magnificent passage from the Gospel, that comes from the beginning of the Gospel of Saint John (we are in chapter 1 of this Gospel), contains an extraordinary freshness and appeal.
“إنّ التقدمة التي يقدّمها أهلنا… لا تقلّ صعوبة عن التقدمة التي نقوم بها لاتّباع المسيح”، هذا هو الردّ الذي أجابني به أحد الآباء اليسوعيّين في أثناء حوار معه قبل دخولي الرهبنة اليسوعيّة، وتفكيري بما يعيشه الأهالي عندما يبدأ ابنهم هذه الرحلة.
في أثناء خبرة الابتداء بمصر، سنحت لي الفرصة للقاء بعض أهالي الرفاق اليسوعيّين وزيارتهم. استقبلوني كابن لهم ببساطة وفرح كبيرين. ولكنّني كنت ولا أزال أشعر بعجب من النعمة التي يعيش بها الأهل.
وفي يوم 6/1/2025، حظيت بفرصة حضور لقاء أهالي اليسوعيّين السنويّ في لبنان. في أثناء الاستقبال، قدّم الآباء اليسوعيّون أهاليهم للإخوة اليسوعيّين المقيمين حديثًا في لبنان. ولاحظت فرحة الأهالي بلقاء اليسوعيّين بعد فترة طويلة من الفراق، مع الذّكريات المشتركة التي تجمعهم ببعض اليسوعيّين.
بعد ذلك، احتفل الجميع بالقداس الإلهيّ في جامعة القديس يوسف، حرم العلوم الطبيّّة. ترأس القدّاس الرّئيس الإقليمي، الأب مايكل زميط، ورافقه الأبوان دُني ماير وشربل بتور. وفي آخر القدّاس، شارك الأب مايكل الجميع بأحدث أخبار الرهبنة، وذكر الإخوة اليسوعيّين اللبنانيّين المقيمين في مختلف البلدان والرسالات التي يقومون بها.
توجه الجميع بعدها إلى كلّيّة العلوم الإنسانيّة لتناول الغداء، وكان وقتًا ودّيًّا اجتمع فيه الأهالي مع اليسوعيّين حول الطاولات لتبادل الحوار. كان الحديث يدور أحيانًا حول أخبار الجميع، خاصّة بعد ما تعرّضوا له من ضغوطات في أثناء الحرب الأخيرة، وأحيانًا كانت الذّكريات التي يشاركها الأهالي عن ابنهم تُحكى ببساطة شديدة.
في ذلك الوقت، شعرت بالنّعمة التي تحضر في هذه الأوقات وغيرها، وأشكر الله على هذه النّعمة التي تجعل عائلات الآباء اليسوعيّين جزءًا من العائلة الكبيرة للرهبنة اليسوعيّة.”

From March 20 to 21, Father Arturo Sosa, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), visited Minia, Egypt, as part of his journey to witness and support the Jesuit mission in the region. This visit highlighted the longstanding commitment of the Jesuits to social, educational, and spiritual development in Upper Egypt, particularly through the work of the Jesuit community in Minia.
