Jesuits visiting George Town University in Qatar
“In early November, a delegation of Jesuits in PRO (Frs. Jad Chebly, Gabriel Khairallah, Doug Jones, and Dan Corrou) visited the campus of Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q). They were hosted by Fr. Ryan Maher, S.J. (UEA), who currently teaches at GU-Q and is the only Jesuit on staff. They had the chance to meet with a number of administrators, faculty members, and students. The delegation was invited as part of ongoing discussions between GU-Q, USJ, and JRS as to possible ways to deepen collaboration in teaching, research, and internships.
La proximité dans le service sacerdotal – Pr. Zaki Sader, S.J
Ayant été invité à donner ce témoignage sur la dimension de proximité que je vis dans mon service sacerdotal, je voudrais commencer par une précision : je suis proche des gens, mais je ne suis pas populaire.
The Amman Marathon takes place annually once a year. It was held in the morning on 4th October,2024. The starting line for 10 km was opposite the Royal cultural center. The finish line was Downtown at the Roman Amphitheater. There were events to fit all ability levels – 42 km marathon, a 21 km half marathon which began at 6 am. Children’s fun race of 4 km (6-14 yrs.) was organized on 27 September. There was also a wheelchair race and a special category for the visually impaired. The 10 km race started at 8 am. All age groups of boys, girls, men, women, a big number of men from military services, and a good number of foreign nationals participated. The participants in the men category had a total number of 885 and women were 622. More than twenty Philippine women, majority of them domestic workers, completed the race with good timing. Some of them even ran 21km. This year, the ranking was made together and the age category was removed. Out of 1507 participants I was ranked 414 and my timing was 1:13:51.07. To run at the age of 60+ is indeed enriching and refreshing. There were some veterans who were 65+ and above. They keep inspiring people for a healthy life by running the marathon every year.
The Amman Marathon is unique where participants get the opportunity to run through the hearts of Amman to the streets of downtown Amman. The roads are blocked well in advance by the traffic police and volunteers for the safe running of the participants.
The main objectives of the Amman International Marathon are to promote athleticism, particularly among youth; to encourage tourism to Jordan and to promote athletic cooperation across countries of the Middle East and the world. To promote healthy lifestyles among all members of society and a spirit of volunteerism are other key objectives. Besides this, awareness for the special causes such as, breast cancer patients, specially challenged, etc. are encouraged.

I am an American Jesuit, currently missoned as a third-year regent at Le Collège Notre Dame de Jamhour, where I teach English. I grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania, a city located between New York and Philadelphia, and graduated from the University of Scranton, a Jesuit school, in 2013, where I first encountered the Jesuits and began discerning my vocation.
